Job Description:

Department Overview

Data Risk Management (DRM) is responsible for overseeing and challenging data management activities across the TD footprint. We act as proactive and trusted advisors to TD business lines, supporting an effective risk culture. Reporting to Senior Manager - Data Risk Management- this role will oversee the second line of defense for data risk - conducting independent and effective challenge of 1st line data management functions, strategy and operating model. Ensuring that use cases align with internal data risk management policies, frameworks, and standards. The Risk Manager will provide guidance, support, and objective challenges to business segments and data-centric teams across TD. Additionally, this role will liaise with ORM 2A partners to conduct data risk challenges and provide input on standard ORM challenge activities.

As a Risk professional, leads, supports and demonstrates diverse range of risk management expertise, advisory services. Provide effective challenge, and demonstrate risk intelligence behaviors and outcomes, while operating within the Bank's risk appetite. Mitigate enterprise and/or business-wide risk exposures for key business segments of the Bank or functional areas. Provide independent opinion, commentary and recommendations based on overall strategy and industry best practices.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting and operationalizing the oversight and challenge coverage plan and challenge methodology in alignment with standards and industry expectations.
  • Overseeing and providing effective challenges on data-related AI risks for specific business groups within the first line of defense. This includes in-depth reviews of the solutions and approaches being deployed.
  • Developing procedures and testing protocols to facilitate review and challenge processes.
  • Interacting with business segments, corporate functions, and data-centric teams to assess data controls and related risks.
  • Building strong relationships with business segment and corporate function ORM 2A teams to integrate data risk awareness and reporting.
  • Collaborating with business partners to stay informed about issues and escalate them as necessary.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of AI and AI risk management frameworks compared to other frameworks (e.g., model risk management, technology risk).
  • Function amongst a team of Risk professionals providing Challenge and control related advisory services to Risk partners.
  • Establishing ongoing reporting and monitoring of data risks across the assigned portfolio.
  • Acting as a subject matter expert and strategic advisor on data risks, staying knowledgeable about emerging issues, trends, and regulatory requirements to understand their impact on TD Bank and implications for the DRM policy and framework.
  • Provide guidance, leadership to ensure operational results and professional/personal development objectives are achieved
  • Work with executive team, senior business management/ partners to develop proactive strategies, tactics, policies and programs to effectively manage regulatory/ compliance issues
  • Act as key liaison with partners and external groups and provide Risk subject matter expertise; partner, as necessary, effectively with key stakeholder groups
  • Effectively management of functional/ operational issues, and participate in the negotiation and resolution of complex and/or escalated issues, where necessary
  • Act as point of contact for guidance in the monitoring/ reporting of compliance, management, and strategic initiatives
  • Lead and develop Risk enterprise-wide frameworks, policies, standards, procedures in coordination with management in line with TD's Risk Program
  • Take corrective action and recommend or implement changes to procedures, as required

  • Support DRM team members and colleagues in developing expertise to align with business/enterprise demand and direction; continue to look for ways to provide and enhance the value delivered
  • Share knowledge, information, skills, and subject matter expertise among the team and ensure the timely communication of issues and encourage good working relationships with other functions and teams

BREADTH & DEPTH
  • Ability to present and make recommendations to senior management and executives within DRM and across Risk
  • Ensure an integrated approach with other business areas, broader organization, and enterprise as appropriate
  • Coordinates and prioritizes multiple initiatives and manages resource allocation

Job Requirements
  • Knowledge of data management, data governance and operational risk Working knowledge of data regulations and industry trends
  • Experience in oversight and challenge activities and understanding of 3 Lines of Defense.
  • Exceptional writing skills with the ability to draft superior quality reports, procedures and internal correspondence
  • Strong leadership and negotiation skills with demonstrated experience in leading high performing teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams and in a matrix structure with multiple stakeholders at varying levels.
  • Ability to operate effectively with flexibility in a fast-paced, constantly evolving team environment and competing priorities
  • University degree or equivalent experience; Graduate degree in a quantitative field, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field of study preferred.
  • 7+ years relevant experience
