The Provincial Timber Pricing Program is focused on addressing the Ministry's mandate under the Ministry of Forest and Range Act, specifically to assert the financial interests of the Crown in its forest resources in a systematic and equitable manner. The Coast Area Pricing Team is responsible for oversight of timber pricing within the Coast Forest Region of British Columbia. The Team's program areas include timber cruising, stumpage appraisals, timber scaling, logging waste residue, invoice billing, log export authorizations, and marine log salvage. The Team is also responsible for revenue oversight, minimizing revenue risk, and ensuring revenue accuracy while promoting forest sector competitiveness.

The Pricing Business Analysis Forester is part of the Coast Area Pricing Team. This role is responsible for exploration of revenue implications related to the Team's various program areas. The successful candidate will be required to analyze data, identify trends, and initiate business improvements which will streamline processes and improve revenue certainty from forest resources. This position requires initiating, leading, and participating in special projects related to timber pricing. The Pricing Business Analysis Forester is frequently involved with pricing policy development, stumpage rate appraisals, and analysis of cruising, scaling, waste, and billing activities. This position requires coordinating with colleagues within the Ministry and developing strong relationships with external business stakeholders throughout the Coast Region.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

To be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the following:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or other directly related discipline as recognized by the Association of British Columbia Forest Professionals (ABCFP).
  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with the ABCFP. Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer your current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the ABCFP within six months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before and offer of employment can be made.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in operational forest planning (i.e.: cutblock and road layout), road construction activities, and/or logging activities within the forestry sector; OR, minimum of 5 years of experience in operational timber pricing.
  • Experience identifying issues, conducting complex data analysis, presenting findings, and making recommendations.


Preference may be given to those with one or more of the following:
  • The required experience obtained from within the Coast Forest Region.
  • A strong background in operational forest planning.
  • Post-secondary education, formal training, or accreditation in business analysis, auditing, or financial controls.
  • Proficiency in SQL programming.


Provisos:
  • Must be willing and able to travel for work periodically.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence, or equivalent.
  • A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
