The Security Operations Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily security operations of the Health Sciences Centre and Mental Health and Addictions Centre, the largest healthcare campus in Atlantic Canada. Operating within a complex and fast-paced healthcare environment, the Security Operations Lead provides leadership, guidance, and operational oversight to the security team while ensuring the safety and security of patients, staff, physicians, visitors, and property.
This role serves as the primary liaison between Security Officers, hospital leadership, clinical departments, external agencies, emergency services. The Security Operations Lead is responsible for maintaining high standards of service delivery, regulatory compliance, incident response, staff performance, and operational readiness across multiple healthcare facilities.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide direct leadership and operational oversight to the entire security team across the Health Sciences Centre and Mental Health and Addictions Centre.
• Coordinate and manage daily security operations, staffing deployment, and emergency response activities.
• Ensure the safety and security of patients, staff, physicians, visitors, contractors, and hospital property.
• Serve as the primary point of contact and liaison between Security Officers, healthcare leadership, clinical departments, and external partners.
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with hospital administration, managers, physicians, and community agencies.
• Monitor operational performance and ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and healthcare security best practices.
• Conduct incident reviews, investigations, report analysis, and recommend corrective actions where required.
• Oversee employee performance management, coaching, mentoring, and ongoing professional development.
• Participate in recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and workforce planning activities.
• Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety requirements, workplace violence prevention programs, and risk management initiatives.
• Coordinate security support for healthcare special events, and emergency preparedness exercises.
• Collaborate with local law enforcement, emergency medical services, fire departments, and community agencies as required.
• Monitor security technology systems including access control, CCTV, alarm monitoring, and incident management software.
• Identify security vulnerabilities and implement proactive measures to mitigate risks in collaboration with health authority.
• Prepare operational reports, performance metrics, and recommendations for health authority.
Qualifications and Experience
• Extensive experience in security operations, preferably within healthcare, institutional, or critical infrastructure environments.
• Demonstrated leadership experience supervising large security teams in a complex operational setting.
• Strong knowledge of healthcare security practices, emergency management, risk assessment, and incident command principles.
• Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and stakeholder management skills.
• Proven ability to make sound decisions under pressure in high-risk and rapidly changing environments.
• Experience liaising with healthcare leadership, external agencies, and emergency response partners.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency in security technologies, reporting systems, and operational planning.
