Job Posting - Director of Development

Location: We are open to candidates from across Canada, and will assume a largely remote role with occasional in-person obligations in Toronto, Montreal and/or Vancouver.

In this role, you will join Park People’s leadership team and lead Park People’s fundraising and development work through our next exciting phase of growth.  You will supervise and mentor a growing development team on the ground in Toronto and across Canada, and will be  responsible for developing and executing an ambitious vision for resourcing Park People’s impact, and ensuring that our core work as well as new projects are sustainable over time.

Park People supports and mobilizes community park groups, community organizers, non-profits, park professionals and funders to activate the power of parks to build strong communities, healthy environments, and resilient cities.

We are looking for a collaborative leader with an eye for strategy and a substantial background in not-for-profit fund development.

Park People is dedicated to promoting equity, multiculturalism, and inclusion in our offices and in all of the work that we do.  We are striving for a staff team that is representative of the communities where we work, and encourage applications from BIPOC candidates.

As Director of Development your role will include:

  • Working collaboratively with Park People’s leadership team to shape critical and strategic directions on fundraising, HR, planning, policies, and programs

  • Ensuring our development goals are supporting the organization’s mission and values

  • Articulating an ambitious vision for growth and developing plans and strategies for the diversification of Park People’s revenue streams to support that growth

  • Leading exploratory outreach and establishing contact with prospective major donors, corporate partners, granting organizations, and opportunities for earned revenue

  • Building a healthy team culture of collaboration, accountability, support, ongoing learning, and effective processes;

  • Develop internal systems which drive annual planning and coordinating the participation of multiple departments in development efforts

The skills and experience you bring to the role include:

  • 8-10 years experience in fund development, with particular emphasis on establishing a strong narrative and growing a development department;

  • Familiarity with systems for account management, revenue forecasting, financial tracking/reporting, and allocating staff resources, and can establish these internally with new and existing staff;

  • A solid understand of non-profit operations/budgets/internal systems for cross-departmental collaboration;

  • Knowledge of the funding landscape in Canada, with a proven track record in generating revenue, writing large scale grants, and stewarding corporate sponsorship clients and major gift donors, including gifts over $100,000;

  • Superior oral and written communications skills to engage and inspire partners and funders in our ambitious vision for change;

  • Experiencing managing and mentoring a team of development professionals.

A few other things that aren’t required but would make you a great fit…

  • Leadership experience in organisations working both nationally and regionally

  • Working knowledge of French

  • Familiarity with Park People’s area of work and funders who support it

Salary Range: $80,000-$100,000 commensurate with experience.  We are open to either a 5 or 4 day/week role.

Anticipated Start Date:  January 2022
