Work Arrangements
The Department of Disability and Community Studies ( DACS ) is seeking contract instructors to supervise and oversee practicum courses commencing Fall 2023.

* The primary place of work is online in the Northwest Territories.
The practicum courses are part of the Education Assistance and Inclusion Certificate Program partnered with the Government of the Northwest Territories.

The Role
Douglas College's Department of Disability and Community Studies ( DACS ) has programs that prepare reflective practitioners to support the education and self-determination of children, youth and adults who have complex needs and/or require support. Instructors in the department typically teach a range of academic and practicum courses.

We require contract instructors for practicum supervision for the Fall 2023 semester.
Further contracts may be awarded in the future as the need arises.

Responsibilities

As a contract practicum instructor, you will oversee the learning of students who are practicing skills in selected sites. You will facilitate student learning as they integrate and reflect upon their educational, personal and professional experiences while on practicum and during scheduled online seminars. There are three areas you will be responsible for:
•Online Practice and Guidance •Group Seminars •Evaluation/Feedback component: written mid-term and final student evaluation/grades

The Department is seeking contract instructors for:
DACS 1240 (Fall Semester) - Practicum
To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need •The successful candidate will have a Master's degree with an emphasis on inclusive education or a closely related field focusing on individuals with complex needs and/or requiring support. •Experience in teaching applied knowledge and skills to post-secondary students an asset. •Interest and/or proficiency in technology using an online-based teaching & learning platform (Blackboard). •Excellent communication & time management skills. •Willingness to work collaboratively in a team setting. •Preferred candidate will have knowledge and experience in the following areas:

    •inclusive education and structural supports in the Northwest Territories •teaching Northwest Territory Curriculum, with a focus on applying UDL •transitional supports through the grades, including school entry into JK and school exit to adult life •social / emotional learning and associated practices •holistic trauma-sensitive and restorative practices to support children and youth •roles and responsibilities of support assistants and those who work with them in NWT schools.
